I can't stop myself from reacting to the latest brouhaha in Philippine showbiz. I've been reading various reactions to this story for quite a few hours now. Some have been appallingly stupid. Then there's a non-apology. I figured, I should add my few cents worth.
First of all, let me put it on record that I've always disliked this creature inappropriately called, Vice Ganda. His brand of humor pokes fun at other people and their physical attributes. He would humiliate his victims in front of equally mindless scum who applaud his monstrosity. Does he have mirrors in his house or the dressing room at all? His latest act of atrocity was recently trending in social media. During one of his sold-out shows, he cracked a joke on how a particular overweight newsperson from another network should be raped.
Even if you're a Nick Ross fan, you'd still cringe at the morbidity of his joke. Rape is one of the most heinous crimes one can commit against a fellow human being. No one in his right mind would wish this fate on his loved ones. I personally know someone who was almost raped. Her pain and anguish still linger in the mind after 30 odd years. She still has nightmares of the incident.
A sick person conceives rape in his/her mind. A totally demented one cracks jokes about it. The nefarious Vice Ganda has since issued a hollow apology. He has apologized to the people who felt offended by his act while defending it at the same time. This halfwit just doesn't get it. Hold on a tick, is he at all even capable of comprehending the situation? Rape is not funny, you idiot! There are things you shouldn't joke about. Rape is one of those.
Power, fame, and fortune can be dangerous if wielded by a clever person. The situation becomes exponentially dangerous in the hands of idiots like Vice Ganda. His network lavishes him with rich contracts, he performs in front of sold-out venues, and he endorses the best known products locally. He will definitely survive this issue. The spin doctors of ABS-CBN are peerless when it comes to fact-twisting. And Philippine showbiz has an uncanny record of recycling even the filthiest rubbish. What can we do about it? Nada! Nil! Nothing! We just hold our breaths to avoid the stench of their feces.
